Happy New Year and the Polar Bear Plunge

Well, after years of thinking about it, saying (to myself and others), “I really want to give that a try…” I did! Parish member Elizabeth Hoffman and I took the polar bear plunge in Lake Michigan. We gathered with about 5,000 others for the event. Several of us went into the lake and others came to watch. Brian Hoffman and my wife, Gina Kuemmel, provided Elizabeth and I with support, towels, and warm clothes to quickly change into when we got out of the water. When I came out of the lake, I said, “I am SO going to do this again!” Now, a bit removed from the experience, I am not so sure… we shall see! In the photos you will see: Elizabeth Hoffman and I “pre plunge” and me running out of the water following my dip in the lake.

More importantly, this morning started with Eucharist at St. Mary’s, in the chapel, at 9:00 am. January 1st is the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus. We took time to dedicate ourselves in this new year to accepting his love, grace and the challenge and vision he has for our lives. May we have the grace to live the faith we profess!

Happy New Year and many blessings!
